I bought one. I was only 50% pleased with it. Just like Recordingpro (who hates Studio Projects)....I'm going out on a limb to state why I wasn't totally pleased with Sytek without giving you up front detailed reasons or rationale.

I leave it to you to challenge my claim that Sytek products suck. :D

They suck really badly. stupid chinese made crap. 60's guy, i'm with you homie!

G whiz! When I ordered it I spoke with.....oh damn! I forget his name. Was it Mike or sumpin? Anyhoo, it was as stateside phone call and Sum Yung Girl didn't answer the phone when I called to place the order.

I would have never have ordered if I thought I had to call and order, "#4 please, in 20 minutes?"

I have no idea what this thread is really about......I'm really tanked. If I even knew what a Sytek was, I could look it up. I need to go to bed, so I'll take 60's word for it. If I wake up tomorrow, I'll look for this thread.

I bought a Sytek many years ago when one of the recording rags rated it as a best buy for the buck. They said it was really similar to the preamps on the Neotek Boards, which I kind of liked.

I was pretty unimpressed - it wasn't horrible, but it just kind of sat there and did nothing, and woe to the fool who sent it any signal that was even slightly too hot.

So I sold it.

i'll be in the market for one soon as i like them. pm me if ya got one.

Yeahhh...Behringer is the best crap! Screw Genelecs and Dynaudios..they are horrible monitors. Right, recordingpro?

Friday means 3 more nights of drinking till Monday..... :D

I think they're kinda' cool.

I'm really not a mic pre snob, but for what it's worth, a number of years ago, it was kind of the darling of that 3D Audio CD thing, and that's kind of when it first caught a lot of people's attention. I also attended a similar "listening party," if you will, a few years back, and it was the same kinda' deal where a everyone was surprised at how well it compared with the Hardy and API and what not.
.

Please do tell

Wow Randy. To each their own I guess.

Sytek pre's generally get decent reviews....clean, transparent with lots of headroom. Supposedly outstanding for recording classical gigs.

What don't you like about it?

Someone actually said lots of headroom???? Who was that?

Useable for classical? Maybe. Outstanding? No way.

I guess this is a good example about why you need to know which reviewers to trust (if any). Bart, what was your experience with it?

I'm not slamming them - as Chessrock pointed out, if you are REAL careful about gain staging (and I'm sure they were on that listening CD) they can sound decent. I just don't think they are anything to get excited about - and of course, that's just one dog's opinion.

But if they have any one obvious weakness (besides having no character, which is not always a bad thing) it would be lack of headroom. API's these things ain't.

Or maybe I just got the one built at 4:55 p.m. on a Friday afternoon before a holiday weekend. You never know...

:D It was primarily meant as a joke, Bart. Overall, it is a good pre. The biggest complaint I have is that one of the channels gets noisy very quickly for some unknown reason.

And no, it isn't for sale! ;)

No personal experience with the Sytek at all. I was referencing what I've read, not stating fact......if I made it sound like I was speaking from vast experience, I apologize.

The best pre I own is a Vintech Dual 72 and I love it for distorted guitar, kick drum, snare and sometimes as a bass DI.

I thought sarcasm might have been your intent given the "SP Sucks!" reference. How ya' been man?

I'm still breathing, so I'd have to say I'm doing just fine.

I caught your new tunes the other day. Nice indeed!

wow....sytek sucks eh?? I've never heard one but only heard good things. I've heard the original channels sound better than the burr-brown ones.. and a neotek desk is on my imaginary wish-list. I was looking at all of the studios that all of my favorite cd's came out of and a sytek was on every single list. I know that doesn't make it good but, come on man...at least back your claims up. this is just silly.
