I'm trying to figure out how to produce hip-hop beats. I've been trying to stick to computer software but a good hardware solution would definitely not be out of the question. So far I have been using samples and tracking software (modplug tracker), but I haven't been able to get the sound that I want from it. I haven't been able to find decent samples to produce the sound I want. I'm starting to think that tracking software is not the right solution. Any suggestions as to how I could produce those low bass melodies and thumps that shake the ground and piss off the elderly? ;)

-thanks

Most Hip hop producers have or have had a MPC 2000 in their arsenal. These are wonderful if you've got the cash. Some of those low bass melodies are 808 or 909 kick drum samples pitched down. You can find tons of drum samples on the net, just search...
