switching b/w monitors and headphones

I recently got my first real mixer, a Mackie 1604. I can't figure out how to switch between monitoring on the powered monitors connected to C/R outs, and headphones. They seem to both be receiving the Main Mix. To monitor on headphones (while tracking acoustic instruments), I am reduced to actually disconnecting the monitors! this cannot be right!

The Mackie manual is really good, but it doesn't address this, probably because it is really obvious, but it has me stumped.
