hi there

just today I heard sweet's "ballroom blitz" once again and I got attentive to the vocals: I like that kind of sparkle they've got and I think the vocals in some cheap trick songs are treated in quite a similar way, just HOW???

I tried to get something like that with chorus, flanger, short delays and stuff like that but it always sounds like bathroom to me.

I know when chorus fails a double-/triple-take might do the trick but I also heard a live-version of cheap trick's "i want you to want me" and it also sounded this way... so there must be a way around the double-take thing :) .

what do you suggest?

thanks

I got their voices. actually I kidnapped them and made them sing some vocal parts for me... but I still can't achieve their typical sound.

Analog delays. There's sections in Ballroom where the delay is extremely fast and tight and there's only a single feedback of it. Sounds like it's panned hard. There's other vocal sections where there's a longer delay and it hangs (feedback) for a bit longer. Also, a lot of stacking and "pitching up" which tends to be in mono during the choruses of their tunes.

As far as Cheap Trick, I see more vocal similarity to Queen than them.

The Sweet ruled. If you can ever find it, grab the Sweet live 73 record. Incredible.
