Swapping hard drive BR-1180

I’ve got a BR-1180 that is very used and dirty, used in a smoky environment, then stored in a damp environment for a few years.

It powers up, but the cursor buttons and the wheel are not responding. It is stuck on the current song. Stop and play work fine. Just not the navigation controls are not working.

I just bought a much less used BR-1180. Only a small amount of data on the hard drive. All controls work.

Is it possible to have someone swap my old hard drive into this new to me machine?

Will it be forced to initialize or otherwise erase my data or is this a simple switcheroo?

It should be a straightforward swap if it's a working drive. If the drive is somehow corrupted, that is a different issue.

3 months ago the original HDD failed on the BR-1180CD. I searched the inter-web and a found a couple of useful videos, and a very useful step by step link on a blog. The data was view able via USB DriveWire, so I exported the raw data (with 90 original songs or ditties) to a folder on my desktop computer, and to my laptop HDD. I followed the instructions and after several failed attempts (and failed HDD's) I finally retrieved the data and I am able to again record on the newer 60GB HDD (3 viable partitions). I have this digital recording studio. It has a hard drive etc, but no CD burner. I have over 30 songs recorded onto it. I've been putting things down on it for the past 4 years, I think.

Last night, when playing back a track for mixing, it stopped. I turned it off and back on(usually this solves the problem and it loads up the song it was last on). This time when it came back on, all the lights were lit up red. I cannot use the studio at all. I pray to God that the hard drive isn't blanked? Can anyone help me to save my recordings?
