SVT II Pro - need better, more powerful head!

I recently borrowed the SVT II Pro head for my 8x10ampeg stack and regret to say that I am not satisfied with it. Personally, I'm more of an SWR person, but I was able to trade my workingman 4x10 with 4004 head for the 8x10 cab and the head. Sounded like a steal, so I did it.

So far, I'm just not satisfied. Not enough punch, and certainly not enough balls. Is there a head that would match my cab in tone and power??

At this point, I'm playing a very moderate bass...its a Schecter wood finish bass. Its actually very nice for the price. I usually play an Ibanez, but the intonation on that has gone to shit. I'm planning on purchasing a warwick within the next couple of weeks (2 or 3).

Advice?

Re-tube the ampeg head......seriously, that's my dream head.....that thing should power the cab and yourself with ease...

If you don't care about the head being tube, go get the 4pro instead.....it sounds good.

Yeah, if an SVT-II Pro plus an 8x10 isn't doing it for you, something sounds wrong. A friend of mine used to have an original SVT-II (which is now mine, heh heh) and the same cab, and it was ground-shakingly good.

I know what moelar2 is talking about.. An Ampeg is loud and brute, with lots of low-mid, while an SWR amp is clean, with sub-bass and highs for ages..

Maybe the trade wasn't such a good idea anyway ?? I personally still find my SM-400s one of the best amps I played on, but you might try Eden, Ashdown or the SM-900...

An SM900 is my dream amp! If I had it my way, I would have had an Sm900 with a megoliath. But I got such a good deal with the ampeg that I simply could NOT pass it up... $500 for the 8x10 (in immaculate condition) and the SVT Pro II!

Whooooaaaaaa. I thought I got a pretty good deal when I bought my SVT-II for $550, and I still don't have a cab for it. Kudos to you.
