... is tricky to mix and get the balance between the two environments right.

Unfortunately you'll all probably never hear the surround mix. Trust me, it's GORGEOUS. :)

More to add on this little sea shanty from my current project w/ my cowriter, but I thought I'd solicit comment from great minds and great ears as I continue to move forward with this.

Thanks all!

I'm interested.
The Echo Mona, my soundcard, has 6 outputs and surround capability in the console but I honestly wouldn't know where to start.

Hey Jim-

My card is a Layla (8 I/O) ... and I mix in Sonar. Basically, I use 6 outputs into a surround amp and I aux out the surround main to a stereo downmix in Sonar ... using the last two outputs to monitor that.

It's how I'm able to mix in the two environments at once.

Hehe I couldn't help smiling throughout this. I don't think I can be of much mixing use, if you're doing surround I should probably just keep my trap shut. There's this little something in the flute, there's a note near the end (2:07) that sounds a bit botched? Too much air not enough tone or some such. Nice singing, that's quite a strong voice you got there.

Sounded pretty nice.

My only issue is with the percussion. To me it needs something simpler. Maybe a shaker. Maybe something else. The drums were just "too much" for me. Needs a stripped down percussion.

A couple of flat notes on the flute or whistle or what ever. But it's otherwise a nice touch.

works in the stereo field....shame i cant here it in surround...i kinda like the odd flat notes on the whistle...it seemed a wee bit too loud but everything else worked...

nice job K :)

What a cute, traditional sounding song.
Only thing I can say about the mix is that the bass needs to be heard better, maybe a bit more low-end? Maybe it works the way it is in surround, though.....
Nice work, Kev! :)
