Hi folks. Done some searching to avoid unnecessary posting, but alas, here goes... I'm in the process of acquiring surround speakers for my studio, and I just got a DVD+R drive to burn my mxes onto (mainly for faster backup...) What I'm wondering is.... if I get the surround encoding for Nuendo, will I be able to burn my mixes onto DVD video with the stock software that came with it? Do I have to get new burning software? Also, is there some way to set up my system so I can watch DVDs and have the sound go out of my MOTU 896's 6 separate outputs for each speaker?

I am running (Nuendo) an Athlon AMD 2100, as well as a Mac TiBook 867 ( i could use either to watch the DVDs, whichever will work!) I've seen it possible with the soundblaster, does this mean I have to buy one of those to watch DVDs??? When I try to configure the speakers in XP, it won't let me choose the separate outputs... Any tips? Anyone doing something similar and it's working for them? Any advice on this situation (DVD burning/ watching in surround) would be much appreciated!

6 seperate speakers each with their own output? jee willakers. that maybe more than its geared for. try finding a connector at radio shack and couple 6 speakers into 2 outputs and see if that works....if not then pickup a dolby digital reciever from circuit city or something and connect that to the motu and connect the speakers to the reciever.....or you can just go buy the audigy since thats what its meant to do and switch between the two when wanting dvds there is also a setup in the sound devices area on windows that can switch between speaker setups for desktop speakers, computermonitor speakers, laptop speakers, headphones, 4.1, 5.1 and i think 6.1 I'm talking about windows XP though....results may vary with each windows. mac i dont know. maybe you can try that. plus when saving mixes on cd or dvd discs...i would check the software to see if it can burn mixes like that and if so then cool. but i dont know what kind of stock software your using or what kind of dvd burner i'm pretty sure any dvd burner would allow 5.1 playback

Thanks for the tips, is this how other people are watching DVD in surround with their speaker/soundcards? If not, share your methods!
