Here's the way I think of it. Is there any difference between someone's vocal chords on the street as opposed
to a recording artist. Of course there is nothing physically different. They have just been practicing. Singing was proably part of them. Not physically but deep down inside.
So of course you can teach yourself to sing.
In recording volume doesn't matter. You have too much electronics to worry about that. However, control is the key. Think about if someone had a voice but you could hardly hear it but when you miced it it was fully controlled. Controlled I mean not hitting wrong notes ect........
The previous message talked about the voice as a instrument. That goes along with my control idea.
Instead of learning how to play guitar your learning how to sing. I would start by trying to imitate differnt recording artists. By forcing yourself to imitate others you are gaining control of your voice.
One of the big things that is missing when singing is that you are not getting complete feedback. So this is the reason why the recordings don't sound good. Recordings even though they are not realtime feedback can help a lot.
I learned about this when I was in a recording studio. I put on the headphones. I could hear every scragly bit of my voice. It sounded horrible. But when they were finished it sounded good. By getting feedback to your hears you
will be able to control your voice. The more you record yourself the better off you will be.
Of course remember to sing from your abdomen. Whatever that means.
