I have a scarlett 2i2 and a pair of dre beats headphones. I am recording vocals at my house so I plugged it all in to my laptop, registered it on focusrite, and connected it and set it all up with reaper. My question before I dive back into this is tomorrow night, do I have to have monitors to simply cut vocals on instrumentals? the musics getting mixed by someone else so I simply just need to record vocals. Do i need monitors? Or are headphones enough?guess il find out tomorrow night when I start at this again, getting a little late and my brains melted lol. But I plan on recording a song tomorrow night. Some help would be greatly appreciated! Don't feel like getting stoked to record and not being able to cause I dont have monitors lol

Also any basic recording tips with reaper and etc would be appreciated! Glad to be hear and learn! Hope everyone had a killer Saturday

It's not optimal, as you can't truly hear the results, but at this stage you may not know what to listen for any way... Track away and see how you go. More important will be the mic, room and singer's technical ability.

You want as little bleed in your vocal recordings as is possible so chances are you'd record those vocals with the monitors off and headphones on anyway... So you don't 'need' monitors in this case... It'll suck a little for 'listening' back though...

I'm assuming you have a mic too? You only listed 2i2 and 'phones...

I've got the 2i2 as well.

If the music is getting mixed by someone else, then I think you're completely fine, even with the infamous Beats headphones.

If you're asking us this question, I don't know whether you'd have the ear to discern the subtle (and not so subtle) differences between good tracking and bad tracking. I suppose better questions to ask would be how you should record your voice. Like someone else stated, you didn't mention what mic you have.
