Super Deal on New 1/2" Tape

This seller has some sweet deals on 1/2" Ampex (Quantegy) 406 and BASF 911 sealed new pancakes. They don't come with metal flanges, but this is the best deal on tape I've seen in a long while. Even if you have to buy flanges you can't find tape this cheap anymore. Based on the model numbers both the 406 and 911 will have 3-screw standard NAB hubs.

I actually thought about buying all of it (Satan, get thee behind me! :D ), but I decided to spread the joy... so buy what you realistically think you need and there should be plenty of happiness to go ‘round. ;)

Guys, Tim, Cory!!:eek: I saw those yesterday and wanted to buy 'em, the 1/2" BASF / AMPEX, not all but at least a few. I emailed the seller for possible Canada shipping but have not heard back from 'em. I'm pretty sure it means he won't agree to that and is sticking to his 'USA Only' terms. Thus, would any of you be interested in buying more of these tapes and then I, in turn, would buy 'em off of you? In fact, if any of you would buy the whole lot [it'd be silly not to, IMHO], I'm sure you could play the part of a mini distributor and help a couple of people out, like me? Pretty pleeease??:confused::o

£5.00 for 406!!!!!!!!! & boxes of 10. Those prices would quickly fill up all those empty Ampex reels that used to have sticky tape on them!!!!!!!
 
Hey folks, make sure and confirm that you are buying 1/2" reels. If you scroll down on that auction it says 1/4" but it most likely is a typo since the photos show 1/2"

Thanks for bringing that to our attention. I just checked with the seller and all the tapes including the Ampex 406 are indeed 1/2" as shown in the photo. the 1/4" reference in the description was a typo. :)

Buy all you want and have them shipped to me. I'll be in Seattle in a few weeks and you can pick them up. Or I'll ship them up to you.

PS I've been talking to the seller over the weekend and he does indeed comfirm 1/2" 2500 feet Bought 10 this morning.

406 is 1.5 mil, +3 tape
456 is 1.5 mil, +6 tape

They're both exactly the same but only differ in coating thickness and, of course, level before saturation occurs. Many prefer the sound of 406. It's one of those secret weapons in the recording tape arsenal. 456 tends to sound glassy when pushed but 406 tends to saturate quite nicely at lower levels. Both tapes sound exactly the same at lower levels. 406 gives more of that classic 'analogue sound' than does 456, especially when pushed.

Sorry guys that everything went south on this deal. In truth I don't really need any more tape, but for those who do and were excited about this find I feel kinda bad.

In the future I won't be posting finds like this on the forum, but will use the PM system instead. The reason... I can't discount meddling by some of our longtime resident trolls. ;)
