OK.............................so I guess this sucks really bad...............

I had better start over then...

sheesh...now joro is talkin' to himself....that boy needs help for sure :D

IT'S STILL HERE!!!

hehehee...You know it's my JOB to bitch about the direct guitars, right?

Don't trust me on the mix end yet...(headphones)...but I'm gonna' ramble anyway. The acoustic that's arpeggiating kinda on the left definitely needs to be recorded with a mic...or...maybe cut the highs on it some? It just has a LOT of attack right now...almost like you mixed it on headphones, lol...needs some warmth.

Low end might be a tad light, lol...I know, I know... Actually, cutting the highs on the aforementioned guitar might warm it up enough so that it won't need any lows...this isn't supposed to thump, right?

I just like stuff like this. Arrangement ideas are cool...the bagpipe/harmonica ambience thing is nice...

Okay man, I promise I'll hit this on the monitors later...I'll probably backtrack on all of this, lol.

Take care,
Chris

Like Chris said, a bit heavy on the highs. Guitars, as well as keyboards...further, guitars sound very 'direct'. Could be a matter of taste, but it's a bit too direct for me that's for sure...

Hey, why don't you add a bass sound? (string or synth, doesn't really matter)

Timing btw, is a bit shakey...(can't be a surprise I guess, but you never know)

Very nice work!

I did hear a few timing issues right about the 1:10-1:20 mark or so.

The direct guitars didn't bother me so much, but I wouldv'e liked to hear a string instrument with more "beef" to it (I guess that is the word) ... it sounded just a little thin, but I do like the melody it is playing.

A cool song to wake up to. The overall mix sounded fine on this end.

Good work!

:)

Thanks fellas....

Chris....that's a Pan flute, violin and cello....
I will re-do the guitars for sure...once I drop the kids off later...
Thanks man,

Ped,
I did have a bass track on this but, it really sucked...
worse with it than without..
timing??
what's that? :D
you are right....not surprised at all...
Thanks man,

boydrj...
Hey man, thanks...
I'll work on warming up the strings a bit...
new guitar tracks should help a lot...

take it easy,
Joe

Nice. Kind of a Sunday morning vibe.

I liked the brightness on the guitars. Some digi distortion though - might wanna try Sluice's -12db idea. Some timing glitches between the two guitar tracks. And the synths kinda had this General MIDI sound to them.

Still, an enjoyable listen. Very nice guitar work.

I tried streaming on hi and lo-fi several times and it wouldnt work here so I dl`d it. Very nice piece of music. It gave me a vision of people about there tasks and pleasures moving in and out the courtyard thru the gates of a castle. If you dont mind , its in the folder and when time permits I'd like to fiddle around with this a bit maybe with a cello thing..

Dafduc,
Hey man glad you liked it....
I re-tracked the whole frickin' thing today...tightened up some of the string sounds they are direct from my Yamaha keyboard,.and used a condensor mic for the guitars...

Toki man....it's all yours if you want it man...
I can send you guitar tracks only if you like...
but first..take a listen to the new one..

Monday Night (well..I had to call it something...)...it's at Soundclick

I think this one is better timing wise too...ya know?

Thanks again fellas,
Joe

I'm back... (you'll wish I wasn't, lol).

Okay, the only thing that's buggin' me now is the same guitar part that was bugging me before, but for a different reason. I think you went waaaaay too far in the other direction. Now it sounds like it has no highs or mids at all...and it's kinda' got that "noise reduction" sound to it...not the digital bubbles, but the "sound" of a file that's been de-hissed.

The first track (yeah, the one I bitched about, lol) wasn't that off the mark at all - was thinking more like, 3 or 4 db off the top end of that one guitar...like @ 12K.

Picky, I know...lol.

Still a cool piece :D

Fudge...............

I did de-hiss that track........

joro**slaps** forehead....

shoot!

Ok counselor....
I threw back in some mids and highs on the arpeggio track....

note to self....

do not use original raw files in edit view.....make copies...doh:confused:

Joe ,Very cool melodys! Do you have other stuff too..{I know you are a pretty good lyrisist also}With your vocals and lyrics?

Don

Sorry if I repeat anyone...trying to listen to a lot of tunes and can't read much...

Nice music.

I'm not a big direct acoustic fan. I'd think I'd rather hear an SM58 actually. But this doesn't sound too too bad.

Overall the mix gets really dense and really bright really fast.

I think the guitar could come down about 3-4 dB's. And why not try it with a small cut from the 4K-8K area. Might take care of some of the DI squeekiness/buzziness.

I also think the violin sound might enjoy a little high end taming. Same range as the guitar cuts would be a good starting point.

Is there a warmer sample you could use for that flute part? It's also occupying a lot of that upper end range that seems to be the real estate of choice for this arrangement. Maybe something lower, softer.

Sorry if I've over-analyzed this. But it's got such a cool spirit to it. I'd like to hear it developed, or something along these lines with warmer tones. I realize DI is kinda tough though.

Anyway, good music man.

Hi Don,
Thanks for listening man...and the kudos...
My finished tunes are here...at another Soundclick page....
Some I did the music...some the lyrics...never ever will you hear me sing though...
small animals (and most people) flee in terror at the sound of my singing voice.......truly bad...
Funny thing is that I cannot seem to write lyrics to my own music...and I have no idea why either....only been successful once with Boarder Road...
Thanks again Don

Hi Sluice,
I got some family up in the Gray and Poland Springs area...
Nice country up there...

Hey man,
I think you listened to my first attempt...
if you go back and listen to the newer version "Monday Night" I used a Rode NT1 on the guits and tamed the shrill strings and pan flute...
Took me 4 hours to re-track and re-mix...
fun stuff though if it comes out half decent....ya know?
I don't use MIDI so, I just have the onboard sounds of my Yamaha keyboard....

Take it easy fellas....and thanks,
Joe

Hey Joe, sorry about that. I'll take a listen to the other version tomorrow when I have more time. Just wrapping up some recording myself and thought I'd check in. I just noticed in another thread you are another New Englander. We're gonna have to have a HR Jam, New England series pretty soon. And ya that's right, Kerouac was from Lowell, wasn't he. Good to meet ya.

Tom

I started with Sunday Morning, then jumped to Monday Night. Monday is way better! Since the direct thing has been covered, I won't go there. let me just say that I thought the playing was very good and the composition is real nice--cinematic scene. Like a transitional music piece--reflective, suggesting a long time passing. Good stuff!

Nice to meet you too man,

Hey Crawdad,
Glad you dug it man...

Thanks for checking it out man,
Take it easy,
Joe
