Hi, im kinda new to computer based home recording and wondering what the clarity would be of the recording with this particular set up. I'd be using...

Shure SM58/57, running into a Behringer UB502 mixer, then into my computer. What would the clarity of the recording be and will it even work? Thanks alot :D

I did it, I actually took a 12 chan behringer (4mic/2 stereo/2 other inputs) and used 8 channels with an sm58, sm57, shure condenser, 3 tom mics plus plugged in a bass guitar and keyboard direct, then connected it to my computer's stock soundcard and it worked fine. I was actually extremely surprised at the results I got; almost no noise and distinguishable instrument tones. This was also after many many hours of messing around with it... But once I entered the intermediate level of mixing I realized that it sounds extremely thin and that Behringer is horrible. I also realized the 3 major parts of the DAW... The correct tuning of the instrument itself (duh), mic pre-amps, and the a/d converter. Thats why I'm upgrading to a soundcraft m12 but I haven't decided on the a/d converter just yet...

In conclusion, yes it should work just enough to get your point across. Don't expect a quality recording.

As you found out.. It will work, but the quality will not be as good. As long as it sounds good, go for it. It can only get better from here on! You can get some pretty cheap audio interfaces these days. You might be surprised when you hear the difference. There is one.

Is that 12-chan mixer the UB1202? im having problems getting it to output to my Audiophile 2496. How'd you connect it to your stock card, btw?
