Hello fellow home recordingers. I'd appreciate any comments on my latest home recording. It's the first song on my page titled "I say 'I die'". I performed all the instruments and vocals. Thank you all! http://benvega.com

I downloaded it. My ears have been defiled. This is my suggestion:

Don't use so many religious cliches in your music. That isn't music, it's a religious statement. Music requires some type of creative input, not reciting your favorite biblical quote. And as for the music, if you are just going to push play on your Casio's onboard demos, it would work for some people with a sense of humor, but in a song like that it just makes one want to vomit.

Also, if you're going to go with the Casio demo mode for the music, a direct signal will capture it better than miking th eroom with you radio shack karaoke microphone.

Certainly different, not bad I suppose, but not something I would listen too... The whole track has a swirling feel too it..

I don't think it deseved the slamming Rats gave it...and I don't really think there is a need for being that harsh on a friendly board like this.

I previewed a couple of the other tracks too... sounded like some decent piano playing..

rats, who da hell are you to say "that isnt music".....Im gonna leave it at that, but if you wanna start a pissing match, we can take it to the Cave....

ben, i'd rather hear your voice less processed......

Thanks

bassman and gidge, thanks for your support! Actually, Gidge, I was talking to one sound engineer and he said I overcompressed my vocals and suggested that i leave out the compressor next time around. Another thing is, i really didn't use much processing but I sung twice through the lead vocal for the entire song. Do you think i should use a different mic maybe?

btw, shame on you, rats...

your displeasure in my comment has been noted.

Was I really that harsh?

uhh, yes rats it was....listen to this guys voice and his piano playing in some of his other songs...man, that's music....hes got Stevie Wonder pegged....now say three Hail Mary's and an Our Father and you might not go to hell...

I think the vocals are quite interesting, good harmonies and dynamics. I think people are saying it sounds too processed because of the quality you created by double tracking your lead vocal (with incredible precision, by the way).

I think it needs more of a bottom. I'm also not a fan of the synthetic harpsicord, but that's really a question of taste.

It's a good rhythmic pop-Christian song. Perhaps if Rats was to rephrase his comments ("was I really that harsh?"-- LOL) he would point out that with those lyrics you are limiting yourself to a Christian music audience. That's only a bad thing if you don't want to do that.
