Hi gang. You've got a great forum here. Here's my situation. I have over 200 four track tapes created on a Tascam Portastudio 464 that I'd like to import to my computer for editing. I also have a Mackie 1402-VLZ mixer. My brother was the sound man in our group (He passed away several years ago from lung cancer; don't smoke, if you do, quit now. End of preaching) so I'm not up to speed with the equipment. How's can I get the four distinct tracks into the computer? Will I have to bring them in one at a time or two at a time or is there a solution that would allow me to dump all four tracks into the computer at the same time. Thanks in advance for your help. Welcome Nyjerr,

You will need at least a 4 input souund card like the delta 44 to get all 4 channels in to the computer.

You will also need some audio software to edit it.

there are others here on this board better qualified to specify what audio software to use. I use Sonar myself.

Good Luck! and sorry about your brother.

Pier

if money is a big issue you can go with the delta 2496 - got 4 inputs - or the m-audio delta 410 - 2 analog inputs so you'd have to dump 2 tracks at a time, and some freebie recording software (like protools free-others can suggest more free software). with either option you're set for under $150.

good luck, and remember this is supposed to be fun!
