Hello.

Caution. metal, distortion.

I recorded a "test" with a friend in drums and me with
a miced tube amp, the drums were miced with 3 mics so they aren't that good.

But what do you think of the guitarsound??

Too much lows, too much highs???

I got a feeling there's too much distortion for layerin, but thats easy to fix.

For the love of....

I'm getting old here...:o

here:..

That sound I miced just to play directions for the drummer..

I'm going back for more tracks, advices at this point would be great.
We're doing a "demo" to friends and local bars for some gigs, maybe.. bass and vox are to be recorded yet.

I'm a metalhead myself, but even I think the distortion is too loud. I find that when I'm playing the guitar just to fart around, I like the distortion up really high, but when I record, I have to turn the distortion down, otherwise it just sounds like noise. I think the recording has to be pristine with good stereo and instrument separation to be able to pull off that much distortion and have it be enjoyable to listen to.

after listening to opeth for years and then hearing necrophagist I've come to love the gain turned only halfway up low gain tube sound. so much cleaner. it doesn't need to have 891237123 distortion pedals on it to sound heavy anymore.

I'de say turn the gain down a quarter to half way and find a way to record your guitar panned hard right and left for stereo effect so you can hear them better and leave the drums in the middle to sperate them from the guitar.

I really like the strummed chords in I think the 2nd riff.

Thanks for the replies guys!..

Yeah, today we continued recording, I turned the distortion a quarter down, It comes clearer.

Started from scratch anyway since we had to move the overheads to catch more toms on drums. ..after the drums are done, with directing guitar, the bassist comes in, a day after tomorrow. After that, Ive got days to hone the sound and double/tripletrack... As the vocalist is doing his thing.

The second riff... Yes, I actally play it wrong the first time around there!:o
..Its a bugger to strum that fast, really tiring on the wrist, hence the rockish breaks are a godsend.:D
...kinda imitating Immortal a bit there...

But, it didn't seem to be too trebly.. or missing mids..?
Hmm, there is hope then.
