Suggestions for recording saxophone w/ backing tracks

Just stumbled across this site. Did some searches and got more confused. Would like to record jazz saxophone w/ backing tracks. I'm told I need a mic, audio interface and computer with recording software. I want to record in order to critique my playing,sound,etc. Don't need anything sophisticated. What mic, interface and software recommendations. Could I use Band in a Box? Would like to get decent quality as cheap as possible. I have a new HP Compaq. Also have access to Sony Acid Studio(correct name?).Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the info. RE audio interfaces. Would a 30 to 50 buck interface with 2 i/o work for what I need?

Your probably looking at around the 150$ range for a alright 2 ch interface and another 65-100$ for a mic, a sm57 is probably what you'll want. If you buy a 2 ch interface new they come with software. Don't forget to get a XLR cable for your mic too.
 
Would you care to suggest a particular interface? Also, would a stand alone unit like Tascam with mic and recording capabilities for a couple hundred bucks be an option. Which is the best bang for one's buck in your opinion? My username says it all. Thanks.

Yes that sounds good for what you are doing and then down load Reaper as your DAW.

Or you can go an other route and purchase a Zoom H4n or a stand alone unit like the Zoom R16 ... Google them up and read up on them. The R16 to me would be a no brainer.
