Hi folks,

Just looking for a little advice?

I currently use the beginner setup Pro Tools SE with the Avid keystudio and have enjoyed it for the most part for the past 6 months or so.

Am looking to step up a notch or two and am considering Pro Tools 8 or possibly 9 for software; I've been told that there are no sonic differences between 8 and 9. I do plan to stick with Pro Tools.

The keystudio comes with the Avid USB micro interface, mini plugs and all, and I've been looking at the MBox 3 Pro and the digi 003 + rack for interfaces. I did have one person suggest a MOTU traveler mk3 instead of the 003.

I use Windows 7-64, and have a good quad core processor, but might have to add a firewire card.

So far I've only used a couple inputs at a time, but see where I might use up to 6-8 inputs for recording in the future.

Spouse is a teacher and I see where I could get the MBox 3 Pro and PT9 for around $750.

Any suggestions? Anyone know which of those interfaces has the best mic preamps? I do a good bit of vocal stuff.

Thanks!
DT

There may be no sonic difference but V9 comes with automatic delay compensation (ADC) and that in and of itself makes V9 the easy choice.

IMO digi hardware is overpriced, plus the digi 003 really only has four mic pres. To have any more channels you'd have to invest more money.

I'd recommend jumping to PT9 so you aren't forced to use avid hardware. That way you could use a presonus firepod or similar for eight mic inputs.

Steenamaroo,

doesn't the digi 003 + have eight mic pres? Will have to check again! From what I've read, the Mbox 3 Pro will work with other software as well. Thanks for the input!
