Suggestions for floor monitors on a budget

Okay, here's my question. I'm looking to pick up some gear for rehearsals, but we're on a budget - we're tired of lugging around heavy equipment to practices. We've picked up a cheap mixer (behringer.. yeah, I know.. but for a rehearsal, it's not so bad), but it ain't powered.

So I guess question number one is if it would be better to pick up a pair of powered monitors, or an amp and a pair of unpowered monitors?

Then next, what kind of floor monitors do you suggest? Like I said, budget is key (hene the behringer mixer) and but we would still like to have decent enough sound. Probably only keys, acoustic guitar, and vocals would go through the monitors (elec and bass would run through their own amps).

Suggestions?

Thanks!
Dave

First, don't waste money on Powered Monitors. Buy separate Monitors and amps.

I have 4 of these and they sound awesome:

Great frequency response and sound almost Hi-fi.

You can't beat em for the price for a pair of monitors.

For 30 more bux a pair, you can get these:

Dawn sells alot of this Madi stuff on Ebay too:

To power them cheap, find a used Power Amp.

I bought a new QSC RMX 850 last year to power mine.

Yo DEmakFan:

Hey man. You live right where Yorkvilles are made. Suggest you check out their monitors -- price is good and so is the quality. I'm sure you can touch base with them since they are located in Canada.

You live where Napoleon got his butt kicked?

Has the snow melted there yet?

You can get Yorkville on the net but I heard they were re-doing their web page -- maybe it's done?

Love that Molson brew you make up there.

Green Hornet :D :p :D

Hehe, thanks for the info guys.

I was thinking that unpowered monitors + an amp was the best way to go, but I figured I'd get some feedback first :)

BTW Hornet - it's still snowing :) (We got about 1 foot of snow last weekend). And Molson!?! Do yourself a favour.. get a case of Alexander Keith's Indian Pale Ale :) Trust me on this one :)

Thanks all.
