Suggestions for a new DI

Can somebody elaborate on this a little more for me. For the end result, what is the difference between a passive/active box? What about having a Jensen and not having a Jensen?

I liked the JDI a lot and it sounded very similar to the J48 to me. The pre I was running them into was the SCA J99. I ended up going with the J48 in the end. I think it had a little more gain, and maybe an extra function or two.

The JDI would be handy in live situations since you don't have to run phantom power out to it. But I think the J48 had more gain. Sound was very similar and both very good. Some cheaper passive DI's might suffer in freq response due to cheap transformers, but this is not the case with the JDI. I've also heard that you can run backwards through the JDI to use as a reamp, which would be nice.
