Hey, we just finished mixing down the first song that I am actually fairly pleased with the results. We do want to go back and make some more final adjustments; we still have the raw mix, so that's no problem. All suggestions welcome (i.e. "Less low end, less guitars, more vocals, boost the blah blah, compress, learn how to mix, etc).

Anyway, somebody give this a listen..... it's a humorous hard rock/metal song about finding out the girl you've always adored (but never had the guts to ask out) has mutual feelings... after it's too late to do anything about it.

Thanks, and I hope you are at least mildly entertained!!

I was highly entertained/amused/impressed by your mp3.

That intro reminds me of the creative endeavors of S8-N, just not as angry. I also heard a bit of Flax in there, the band recorded by Fishmed.

One question: That silence around 2:41. Was that tracked like that or did you apply some digital editing to get that?

NICE!

I'd like to hear our sonusman mix it, though.
Check out his Superhero demo and imagine what that kind of clarity could do for your music.
It's hard to get vocals to sound right over a really loud punchy background, but that's the challenge here.
And the vocals are worth getting right.
They sounded right in tune and right in time.
And most important: the mood of the tune overall didn't sound disconnected from the tone used by the vocalist.
Not strained or forced. Just powerful.

I'll say only this:
you did it better than I could've done it.
Keep on doing it!

Hey, thanks for the positive feedback... it's nice to hear from someone else that you're doing alright!!!

We were using Cubase, so that digital silence was easy; just killed the volume on all the tracks for that split second (I love the effect it has). And I agree totally about the vocals; our singer does an excellent job, and every syllable should be understandable. Plus, if you don't hear everything, you miss a lot of the witty lyrics :)

Do you think that eq would help? Perhaps a boost in the 3-5k area....

And you're right, Sonusman can do some serious mixing!!!

This is very very good. I am also very impressed. I think that this song should be accessible to people not normally interested in the alternative/metal genre. As described by drstawl, you really get the heart of the song across.

Good composition and musicianship. I would brighten the lead guitar in (just) a couple of places. I would boost and brighten the lead vocal as you mentioned.

Cool.

I loved it....yes on a boost for the vox....and that's about the only thing, short of professional engineering to make the thing really shine....loved listening to this, good playing, good humor, good composition.......gibs

When I can hear the bass it sounds really fuckin' cool and growl-y, but it's lost in the mix most of the song :(. Totally dig the drumming but the drums could use some "oomph" in the mix, especially the kick. Loved the tune.

(PS, go for the groupies until it gets old)
