The whole concept is obviously flawed, if you think about it.
The best I have ever seen is a totally so-so deal on something that turned out to be in somewhat better shape than luck would have it. I constantly see people paying more for dubious used gear than what they could have bought it for new if they would have looked around a bit.
I also constantly see people bragging about "great deals" from eBay that are total rips.
Buying mainstream gear on eBay is in my book pure evidence of poor judgment and cluelessness.
You can get some reasonable deals on oddball stuff that only a few people are familiar with, though.

The gear I buy is consistently cheaper new through dealers than it is beat to death on eBay.
