Honestly - and I know people are going to be furious with me for saying this - I have never seen what I would consider a good deal on a major-brand guitar or other mainstream gear on eBay in several years of looking.

The whole concept is obviously flawed, if you think about it.

The best I have ever seen is a totally so-so deal on something that turned out to be in somewhat better shape than luck would have it. I constantly see people paying more for dubious used gear than what they could have bought it for new if they would have looked around a bit.

I also constantly see people bragging about "great deals" from eBay that are total rips.

Buying mainstream gear on eBay is in my book pure evidence of poor judgment and cluelessness.

You can get some reasonable deals on oddball stuff that only a few people are familiar with, though.

Never, but sometimes I think I'm the only guy who hasn't. I've never bought anything on eBay because the prices just aren't there on the kind of stuff I'm looking for. I sell.

The gear I buy is consistently cheaper new through dealers than it is beat to death on eBay.

i totally agree with bongalation,

I always call ebay "the seller's market" . I have bought and sold quite a few things on ebay but it always baffles me as to why people will spend the same amount of money on someones used gear that they havent even tried out yet when they could get it for the same price new alot of the time.
I guess some people are just too lazy to do the research or have to much money to care.

> Ebay is a buyers market. The seller has no advantage over the buyer.

Dude, that's simply not true in the case of commonly-purchased items.

Say you want to buy some variety of Fender Stratocaster. You are competing with a huge pool of buyers, at least half of whom haven't the sense God gave a goose and are additionally twisted up by the competitive nature of auctions. When you are done and have "won" the auction, you only know that you've paid more than the most credulous ninny in the country.

Never mind that the vast majority of such offerings are substantially misrepresented through ignorance, overt fraud or simple wishful thinking. Not that most buyers will ever be the wiser.

You can't win except in the extremely rare case of someone putting up an offer with a totally clueless BIN price that's below the item's actual value - and good luck on getting him to sell it to you before someone offers him more and he withdraws the auction. New eBay rules are in the advantage of sellers.

It's virtually impossible to get a truly good deal on eBay for a commonly purchased, popular item.

Weird stuff, yes. There are lots of deals on obscure stuff.

I've gotten lots of killer deals on Ebay.. I do tons of research before I buy anything, I take everything into consideration... I'll buy new unless I can get something at least 30 to 40% or so off...
Believe me I dont throw my money away, its too hard to come by....

I know what you're saying though, there are alot of people that buy on impulse, dont do the research, or get caught up in the bidding....

:)

not just ebay, disturbing trends nowadays IMHO... everything, not just audio equip, food, insur, GAS...ageesh... they see the gov do it so why not them? they have a point, as sad as it is...

rant off <snip>

the bag is sold at the bargin price of $27.00 plus shipping:D For sure a buyers market!!

F.S.

Search for "hammond organ" on eBay, and see how many B2s, A100s, C3s and RT3s are described as "Just like a B3!" That, or the number of M3s (a spinet organ) described as a "Baby B3." Then, there are the Hammond organs that are really other brands, but being sold as a Hammond.

EEE-YIIIIIKES!!! In The Trader, here in Indiana, I've recently seen a C3 for $4800, and I think the B3/122 was something like $1000 more (same seller). Truthfully, I'd much rather have a B3/122 or B3/147, but if it comes down to it, price wise, I'll settle for any of the ones I previously mentioned.

I have an M2 spinet (one model right ahead of the M3, and with a few less choices) in storage, right now. If I REALLY want any organ music, in any of my future recordings, I'll fix a mic in front of my M2's built-in speaker...won't sound like a B, but it'll do. I also have a lil Koestler Harmophone reed organ (sounds like a Magnus chord organ, but don't have chord keys) that might be good for something. The Harmophone's the most portable, of the 2 organs I own...all closed up, and the power cord properly inside, it looks just like a small suitcase.
