im running on a new laptop with 1gb ram and amd turion 64 mobile...and the equipment is a firebox and akg cond. mic....Here the problem. When I run Cubase LE and record or even playback I get this stutter on the track sometimes causing it to sorta pause in a way I cant put my finger on what the problem is..But it is impossible to record when it records my take like that. It happens in different spots lets say every 45secs give or take..Different each time. Can anyone help me at all....thanks for any help

I even tried to asjust the latency high and low....no help at all...please if anyone has knowledge with this situation help me out before a session I will be running tonight..

it really sounds like a RAM problem, but you said you have 1GB. Did you change the settings to tune the computer for recording?

I mean what is there really to tune. I went to musicxp.net and followed some tips thats about it...anything else you have in mind...whats crazy is I ran some other software I own such as cakewalk and adobe and still the same stutter with all 3 apps....could it be drivers or something? I checked hps website for my notebook model #dv8225nr and the latest audio drivers are Conexant AC-Link Audio Driver which I have already for my main sound card...any other ideas

hold on, why are u using the onboard sound? Didnt u say u had a firepod? U should be using that with ASIO drivers at a high buffer setting for good playback

I had this same problem... Its your computer and its stressing out, it can't handle the recording and playback. Remember to exit all programs, record at 48khz or 44.1 if you don't really care about that difference. Could also be your laptop's hd rpm's. anything less than 7200 is bad. Just do whatever you can to take unnecessary stress off your computer.

I made sure the vst multitrack was set to the fireox drivers. Sound is in my monitor headphones but does nothing but skip...im so lost..HD doesnt seem to the problem either..any other suggestions?

shits free

I also have a problem with LE. every thing was working dynomite.then vst inst
popped up flickering.then i started to move crap around on my screen and it left tracers.

I am not sure, it's a weird problem. You should have no problem w/ 1 GB, a firebox, and LE...I've seen such a thing work beautifully in person before. I don't know much about your processor, but I'm assuming its up to par right? Maybe there's something wrong with the firebox, 'cause if you are using the ASIO driver and settings are right you shouldn't have problems...

edit: but you say the computer is stuttering, so i guess it isn't the firebox

Go to Devices > Device Setup > ASIO Multimedia Driver > Control Panel > Advanced Options.

Here you can play arround with your sound Buffer.. The lower your buffer is, the more chances there are that your sound card will make a mistake and some data will be lost during recording and playback. The higher your buffer is, the more consistent your recording is going to be, but that also means more lag time as well. If you don't have any lag but your recordings are sometimes sounding 'crackled' it usually means there is a problem with your buffer size. Change that around a few times and try recording audio, see if it makes a difference.

your talking about inside of vst multitrack? ...ok I input those settings and the firebox no longer records until I set it to the firebox drivers. Then I change the buffer size in the firebox control panel and no good....but in the Multimedia driver I set it and its like the firebox isnt there...Its not pausing its just not letting me record or play through my monitor headphones....this is all in vst multitrack...

sidenote..when vst multitrack is set to the multimedia driver it tends to have a problem when I try to skip to the middle of the song..when I try and fast foward ...

how do I get it to utilize the firebox on those drivers? or am I just all out of sync here.

I had what sounds like the exact same problem. I'm running a firebox with an amd laptop. I spent several months troubleshooting and finally came up with a fix.

For me, it was a driver issue. What I suggest is doing a format and a fresh install of windows xp (not media edition). Make sure it's not bundled with software, just an oem version. Then install only what is totally needed to use the firebox. Basically, the firebox drivers and cubase. Don't update any drivers, don't install video drivers/mouse drivers/antivirus etc. Then test out the system. If it's still skipping, do some optimizations (again, not installing drivers etc, but doing windows optimizations). Test again. If it's a driver problem, you should find your system stable (or at least more so). Do a system backup at this point. Then slowly install each driver you want to run on your system. Test the system between EVERY driver install. Then install necessary programs again testing between every install. If you're problem was like mine, you'll find at least one driver/program that causes the system to skip.

For me it was an updated mouse driver, and norton antivirus.

One last possibility is your firewire chipset. Make sure its not a NEC chipset, as they don't work very well with fireboxs.

Hope this helps, best of luck.
