This is the first time using USB to computor. In the back of MR-8 where it says USB my USB cable won't fit on it. I was thinking that there is a plastic covering on it but when I tried to pull it off using needle nose it seemed to be on there pretty snug so I didn't want to force it off until I found out. Any help out there?

Thanks,
Ben

usb

the plastic cap is just to protect the connector.

so dont be afraid to give it a little force it wont break..... but i wouldent recommend using pliars. just get something under the edge of the cap and pull up.

Uhh, my USB jack on the MR-8 does not have any kind of cover. The optical (lightpipe) connection does. You do know that there are two different connectors on the end of the USB cord don't you? The one that goes in your PC is wider and flatter than the end that goes in the MR-8. I don't know for sure but you might have the wrong kind of USB cord?

Oh yeah. Lose the pliars!!

PLIARS!!!!!!

C'mon, everyone knows Vise Grips are the way to go.

usb

usb does NOT have a cover that is for sure the optical connection,

Hi everyone,

I went to the store and found out that USB 1.1 ad 2.0 are different sizes. The end of my MR-8 is for USB 2.0.

Thanks for your quick responses,
Ben

Phew!

You had me worried when you mentioned taking PLIARS to the back of your box...

USB connections for 1.1 and 2.0 generally use the same connector type. All PC connections are the flat style, referred to as USB A. The square connections, referred to as USB B, are generally on the USB components.

I believe that the MR8 is based on USB 1.1 and not the higher speed 2.0 standard.

?

I thought the same as Ed? I know I have a 1.1 and 2.0 input on my puter and the inputs are the same...

The difference is the speed of what flows accross the same connectors. USB 1.1 is something like 11 MB/S where USB 2.0 goes up to something like 400 MB/S.

Only newer PCs have support for 2.0 and few components exists yet that are 2.0 compatible.

Hi Guys,

Here is what I'm talking about. I guess that is the cap? I'm using the attachment file below so I can show a pic. Let me know if it comes out.

I've never even plugged my MR8 into my PC. Always used the CF card reader. Heard the MR was slow, so never even attempted.

And yes, your pic came out...

Mine is a Sandisc (sp?). $20. Don't know if there is much of a difference in readers.

There's two kinds of USB B connectors and it looks like your cable has the smaller USB mini B connector used mostly in digital cameras and such and MR8 uses the bigger USB B connector. You need to buy the correct USB cable with the bigger USB B connector.

I am only aware of one size of USB B connector. The MR8 I have uses that standard size. The smaller square-like connectors on digital cameras are usually not USB but firewire.

I still don't see a cap over the USB jack? Your cap on the digital jack is missing.

The digital connectors do have a cap to avoid dirt. Many digital connections are light based, and dirt inside will cause problems, hence the cap.

Yeah you have a mini usb cable. get a standard USB A-B cable and you should be set.
