I feel really stupid for having to ask this, but my knowledge on gear is lacking lately. I have a Creative X-Fi Elite Pro sound card (with the external console) and a pair of Yamaha HS-80s. What would be best suggested way to connect them? As the console has a SPDIF out, Optical SPDIF out, and DIN, and the HS80s have either XLR or 1/4 inch for In, thoughts? Keep it effective and cheap preferably? ;):D

*PS* Im assuming the AD link between the console and the actual sound card is giving me Analog out on the console...I hope...

another thought, maybe a optical SPDIF in to XLR stereo out hug? such a thing exist?

I am not familiar with the card you speak of.
Having said that, SPDIF is a digital connection and your monitors only have analogue connections.

Your connection will have to be either analogue (like 1/4 outs or RCA to 1/4 inch adaptors) or you will have to do to the bother and expense of getting adigital to analogue convertor.

I have a hard time believeing the sound card does not have some sort of analogue out , even if it is a stereo 1/8th inch jack.

Leave it to a crap manufacturer to not include REAL specs on their website! Per the CNEt review here There is a 1/4" stereo headphone jack - that's your audio output.

Yep. You just need something like this,

which you can get super cheap at your nearest radio shack. Don't go to a chain music store for this sort of cable. I had to buy one recently and payed $10 less at radio shack for the exact same thing than I would have at guitar center.

This image (from Newegg) shows 3 "line outs"- I'm guessing those are stereo line outs, so yeah- the cable Cancers posted above ought to work.

If you are planning on getting into serious recording, I'd seriously consider a unit more tailored to the needs of a home recording studio. Not trying to be a gear snob or anything, but that thing will not make your life easy :p;):)

what are the red and white rca jacks on the back? inputs or outputs?

Jeff - that diagram form Newegg is probably not right - the manufacturer specs say there are two line-ins .
What is the device you have in your last post? as the RCA are coded red and white, they are left and right something (in or out)

I don't think Creative has ever gotten anything right- I wouldn't be surprised if their own specs were wrong, lol. :p;):D

Aha I did not see the info on Creative's site, but in the box is an external console w/remote, so all the inputs and outputs on this are on this, which then wires up to the i/o card.
