Hey all, I searched the forums and could't find an answer to my questions so, I'm hoping you can help me.

I use FL Studio 4.5 and Reason 2.5 for production purposes on my PC. I have an Echo MIA MIDI soundcard with the SPDIF.

Basically due to my budget, I haven't picked up a MIDI controller yet... but I've stumbled across the Studiologic SL-990 pro recently, and I'm wondering if it's capable of connecting via SPDIF through my Echo card. Also, will it control the individual soundfonts in FL Studio and Reason for me?

I really don't want to get an Oxygen8 MIDI controller because I want a full 88 Weighted Keyboard. My wife plays piano, and she'll be using it as well.

I just need to know if it will be able to control my soundfonts, and is it compatible with my Soundcard?

I know virtually nothing about working with MIDI.

Thanks for you help.

No. S/PDIF is an digital audio port. The Studiologic keyboard has no sounds of its own, and accordingly has no S/PDIF port -- it's just a MIDI controller keyboard.

However, it is capable of being connected to your Mia MIDI card via MIDI cables.

Yes.

Thanks for the info Al.

Now, being that I'm a MIDI retard for lack of a better term... I have all the MIDI cables, because I recently sold my Triton LE and kept them. Would I connect the keyboard via the "MIDI In" on the soundcard? Or the "MIDI Out"?

I assume it would be MIDI In, because the keyboard generates the MIDI data and the software receives it, and generates the tone, correct?

I appreciate your help, more than you know.
