How large are the diaphragms in the LSD-2?

alanhyatt said:They are the same capsules as the C3. So it is a 1.06” (27mm.) dual diaphragm capsule. The major difference is that we match the capsules in the LSD-2 as the match has to be more critical when using them in a vertically coincident manner.
littledog said:Hey Alan:
Did you happen to catch Chessrock's thread about the "Musician's Advocate" company, where the CEO posted back and called Chessrock a freakin' idiot. After which, everybody jumped all over him for not acting in a professional CEO-like manner? See, you're becoming a trend-setter!![]()
DJL said:I love my two C3 mic's, but now I'm a little confused about the matching of the two diaphragm capsules inside the C3, what is your accepted margin of difference between the two capsules inside the Studio Projects C3 mic? Thanks again.
alanhyatt said:I did not take that shit when I was a kid, and I will never take it as an adult...So here we stand, where do you want to go from here?
alanhyatt said:Yes I did, that was a good one. Did you see the post where Cheese Rock insulted the CEO in a manner that was very uncool... I suppose you did not, but then again, I guess you would not see the other side. Like I said, there are about five or six freekin idiots out there who think they are the rulers of the boards, and stop at nothing to harrass or start a flame against me.
If you go back to the beginning of this entire thread, you will see that it was not me that started the flaming. The rest of the good people on these threads know very well what I do. I am not a sales weasel, I do not force anyone to buy, nor do I try and tell them to go out and buy our products after each post I make. I answer their questions in a timely manner and speak to them direct, which is more than any other CEO does here. What is a professional CEO manner? Does it mean they have to take shit from people just because they represent or own a company? I think not.
If the majority wanted me off the boards, they would tell me. The five or six who do, well you know what they can do. In the meantime we have achieved a level of success with our products that is a CEO's wetdream. I think the reason for it is that I am in the public, talking and getting ideas from our customers to give them the products they need and can afford, not to mention products that sound good and are very well built. So, I will keep doing that, and as long as the five or six guys keep flaming me, I will continue to flame back. I don't like guys who simply bust balls for the fun of it.
I did not take that shit when I was a kid, and I will never take it as an adult...So here we stand, where do you want to go from here?
alanhyatt said:Well most manufacturers accept a +/- 2db sensitivity spec. The problem is, there can be a 4db difference between two mics. Even Neumann has this spec on many models.
One way I found to resolve the problem was to split the tested capsules into three sensitivity classes and code them with a color. For example, a capsule that has a spec of:
-35dB +/-1dB, is marked by a green dot on the packaging
-36~-37dB, is marked by a black dot on the packaging
-33~-34dB, is marked by a red dot on the packaging
This way to get a matched pair, you simply buy two mics with the same code or color dot on the outside of the packaging, and you are within 1dB.
As for the LSD-2, it is being done for you within a spec of 1/2 db, so they are about as close as you are going to get. I hope that helps.
DJL said:Yeah, that helps alot, and its good info to know. Thanks.
Oh, I can't find any Green, Black, or Red dots on any of my Studio Projects Mic packaging/boxes?

Now, of course, if none of this post was directed at me, then please forgive my bewilderment and confusion. But usually when someone starts a post with an excerpted quote from someone elses post, the logical reaction is the text underneath the quote is a response to the quote.
I think the reason for it is that I am in the public, talking and getting ideas from our customers to give them the products they need and can afford, not to mention products that sound good and are very well built.
alanhyatt said:If they are older units, they may not have the markings. It is on all units from at least 6 to 10 months ago. They could also be in your manual where the serial number is. If not, then it is an older C3 before we started this new program, but if you want, we can get them in and test them for you to let you know the sensitivity
DJL said:Oh ok, my SP mic's must have been made before the colored dot system. I'm happy with all my Studio Projects mic's so its not necessary to test them, but thank you very much for the offer. I'll look for the green dots when buying SP pairs in the furure tho. Oh, do the B-series mic's also have the colored dot system? Thanks again.
