I've been using this mic for a while now... I love it, especially for the price. But just so I can get a better understanding of terminology... how would you describe the properties of this mic?

Neutral is the word I use first. My "neutral" could be somebody else's "unexciting," which is fair. Somebody will be here soon to say something lame like "cheap," so brace yourself.

Sort of brown and floaty as it swirls down the crapper

Hi LCD,

I would describe it just the way YOU hear it. What YOU hear is not better or worse than anyone else. It just may be different. Others will agree with you or disagree with you, and you know what, THAT'S OK!

Don't forget the preamp, the signal chain, the room and of course the source have a great deal to do with it.

Also, as someone who uses many price levels of microphones said to me, "if you know what you're doing, you can make most any mic sound good!"

Just keep loving it and trying it out on various types of sources and keep notes on how you use it. Soon enough you will hit a happy medium description of your mic.

I have the TB1 and find it works VERY well with my voice. As a matter of fact, I can use the tracked vocal without eq and just a bit of compression.

I know the B1 is a bit different than the TB1, but if it works, it works.

What are you using it for?

I almost waited to get the new version of the C1 which will be released very soon, but when I saw a B-stock TB1 available for only $195.00, I thought, well why not. Now I'm so glad I did. Alot of people feel the C series is better for female vocals and the B series for male vocals. So, again, I chose the B.

The TB1 seems quite detailed to me but not overly hyped in the hi-end, nice and warm. I'm using it with the JoeMeek threeQ which I also got B-stock and again, the guys at PMI made me VERY happy I got it. Not bad for $150!

I'm finding that mics are like wines. There's no real correct or incorrect way to describe them. That's the beauty of it. What you hear is what you hear. Just like in a fine wine, what you taste is what you taste!

To sum it up: Studio Projects is widely loved by home recording enthusiast. It is also widely hated by the "who's who" of high class lemming snob-hobery.
Watch this video. In the video the ps3 = vintage neumann u-87 and the studio project= wii.

Gone. It was the first mic stolen by the hip hop kids that hang out at one of the studios I work at. They must have liked it. I didn't get to use it much before it walked off.

LOL, I know... basically what I'm getting at is I know the sound of this mic, but not sure how to describe the sound properties (transparent, colored, etc.)

Shaeffer... "hip hop kids"?? wow, smh

Of the three or four condenser mics I have used in its price range, It is by far my favorite. It seems to give a bit warmer tone than most low end condensers, without loosing detail. I was very happy with the results I got through its use. The only time I might not want it is with someone who has a lower mumbly garbledupsounding kind of voice. But overall, I feel its the best value in this range.

interesting name......

It is quite the name isn't it. I had it besowed upon me by the giver of names at the tender age of 14. Too young to appreciate really.
