Looking for good choices
for really smooth recordings.
NTK?
Thanks

What's your budget?
Is it just for yourself or also for others?
What pre's are you using?

That'll get you better responses.

Chris

Ah yes, the budget.
Looking for relative bargains, probably
under $400 if there are good choices.
Don't have a pre yet. Might be using
the pre's of a DAW board depending
on what I get. Aardvark Q10 or the like.
OK I'm open for bargains in preamps
too I guess, that way I can feed an
amped signal into a line level
audio card.
Thanks for asking.

A Marshall V67 and a Studio Projects B1 would give you two different flavors for under $200 total. Then you'll have $200 left over for an M-Audio DMP 3 dual mic pre.

Off to the races in fine style.

Tonight I tried a bunch of $300 & under condensors at Sam Ash.
2 AudioTechnica, 1 AKG, V67, V67B,
Auditioned thru a solid state mixer
for preamp & sony headphones.
It came down to the AKG and the
V67. I liked the V67 best.
Had the best overall range.
Nice bass without being boomy.
Good midrange and open highs
without too much presence.
My impression was it was very
natural sounding on my voice.
They had no stock so the demo
cost me $89.
Sounds about the same
on my Crate combo guitar/vocal
preamp, I'm relieved to say.
Still want to try a B1 and C1 in
the future to see if I happen
to like them better. But for now,
the V67 will do just fine.
BTW: I liked the AKG a lot, with
the bass rolloff switch, but
rolled off it had too little lower mids
and with it normal it had too much.
The V67 was nice and flat.
A little proximity effect lets me
get a touch boomy when I want.
