Where do you buy your strings? Do you get them at a certain shop or do you buy them online? If so, where?

I dont have a local music store, I live in a small town so I usually just order a couple sets when I order something bigger...

Got a couple sets from American Musical Supple when I got my PODXT...

And a couple sets when I got my Roland Cube 15 from Musician's Friend...

Dean Markley's!

:D

I use to buy them at mars, but now there's a little indy shop that keeps 'em in stock for me.

I try to support my local shop with things like that.

I say support your local dealer for things like strings, straps, cables and so forth. Once they get to know you as a regular most will cut you good deals like 2 for the price of one, and once they know what you regularly use they will try to keep your favorite guage and brand in stock. This is especially useful if you go thruogh strings as fast as I do.

i go to a family owned store in town. They have one of those frequent purchase cards where your tenth set of strings is free.

i prefer to support local shops, but the main local shop here charges around 10 bucks for a custom picked-out set of strings (~$2 per wound and ~$1 for plain strings, this is on acoustic), and i ordered 12 sets worth of bulk strings for something like $35-40 from musician's friend, which makes it hard not to go with them. i still prefer to keep it local, when the difference is not 3+ times as much to stay local. i always buy picks, straps, etc, pretty much locally, and i own 3 guitars from the same shop here in town. i will have to hit there for my next axe.

I can see buying locally if they can match the online prices, but what kind of idiot would pay 20 to 30% more for the same item... plus tax?....

You would have to be crazy or rich be doing that....

:)

For me it really depends on how desperate I get for them. I try to buy them on-line from places like Musicians Friend, Eldery has great prices in bulk. I really do not like going into the local shops here. The staffing I usually find are pompus asses. (remember the scene in Wayne's World that is here.)
