What strings would you recommend for recording Electric Bass, Electric Guitar, and Acoustic Guitar? I know it's half a dozen one to the other an opinion thing, but lets have your opinions then. If it's a style thing then just recommend a string set and list the style.

Thanks,

Mongoo

i like heavy ernie balls for my electric, boomers for my bass, and i'm really impressed with the dimarzzio's that i just put on my girlfreinds acoustic. as far as style on my electric and bass its mainly metal and those strings have never let me down.

I just recently tried Dean Markley Blue Steels and I really love them.... fantastic!

Elixirs on acoustic because they reduce string noise so dramatically.

Gibson Brite Wires on electric, or Ernies if I can't get those.

Just plain old D'Addario XL bass strings ... although I'm about to put on a set of Dean Markleys that looked interesting. :)

Elixers for acoustics and electrics, bulk Martins for the classicals, and no clue what's on the bass cause I only change them every ten years or so.

Almost any strings will do (depending on yout preference of guage and wrap) as long as they are fairly new. If strings sound good live, chances are that they will sound good for recording. Personally I like Ernie Ball Hybird for most electric guitar, GHS light for electric bass, Elixers for acoustic, and DiAderio mediums for hollow body electric.

Martin Strings on acoustic hands down. D'addarrio for everything else. When recording electrics keep in mind the larger the string the larger the tone theory.

I'm stuck on Ernies. Been using nothing but hybrids for years. Apart from at Christmas when the obligatory 9's show up in my stocking :D

Always Elixirs on my Taylors (always feed a guitar what it likes to eat), and I've completely switched to the GHS Boomers on my electrics. Even with the 9's I have on my strat, I noticed either a thicker or a more bell-like tone, depending on the pickup selected.

I think steel strings sound best on bass. On guitar... whatever fits. :)

For bass, DO NOT BUY ernie ball strings. They have a tendency to break quite easily. The most bang for your buck quality bass string you can get is d'addarios hands down.

By the same token, be very careful about d'addarios on an electric guitar. On both my Strat and my LP clone, they were WAY too twangy. They made my stock strat sound like a telecaster...I can only imagine what they would do to a tele...

I use D'addario strings on all my electric guitars and Dean Markley strings on my nylon string classical guitar.
I use Fender strings on my Fender 12 string acoustic.
Boomers for my bass guitar.

Ernie Ball 10's (Green Pack) on my electrics. For my acoustics (6 and 12) and mandolins I use the John Pearce mediums of any blend. If I can't get any Pearce strings I will use the Ernie Ball Earthwounds Mediums and D'Addarios for my mandos. When I purchased my Taylor in 2001 it had the Elixers on it. They didn't last me a month and the G string snapped on me. I wasn't too happy about that and after hearing and reading the hoopla of how great these strings are, I find them over priced and over rated. If you haven't tried Pearce's, give em a try. I find them to stay bright a lot longer. Just my opinion. Kennyboy

bass strings

i only use DR high beam stainless steel bass strings. other strings that are ok. the blue steels would be ok to record with, i find they have less sustain and are a bit dark. also the carvin stainless bass strings are actually pretty good too but they come tapered wound down by the bridge. they dont work well on my bass but sounded fine almost as good as the DR's

Bass: Right now I have some cheap Fender flatwounds, but I also like the Rotosounds and have been meaning to try the Thomastik-Infeld flatwounds.

Acoustic: D'Addario EXP mediums

Nylon String: Augustine Black Label

Electric: D'Addario XL 10-46

Well, I use Ernie Ball .010 - .052 on my electric.

I used to use D'addario but I broke them all the time. Seriously.
When I switched to the EB's I was happy. I don't know if they sound better or anything. Hell, I can't tell. As long as they're pretty new they sound great to me.
