Hello everyone! I recently acquired a Fernandes Vertigo Elite. When I first got it, it had some really light gauge strings on it. I replaced them with some heavier ones (10-52). I have adjusted the truss rod and the Floyd Rose tremelo and for some reason, no matter what I do, there is always string buzz! I can't make the truss rod any more loose and if I raise the tremelo too much, the action is too high!

The buzz is just about all over the place. Not so much on the lighter strings but the wound strings are terrible. What can I do?! It seems like I've tried everything. I really don't want to have to take this in to a shop to have it worked on. Any help would be awesome. Thanks in advance.

Too bad darrin isn't around. He'd tell you that you didn't wind your strings correctly.

We need a bit more info.

Where are the strings buzzing? All wound strings? All positions or just certain frets Was there any buzzing with the light er set? Normally you would expect to get more buzzes with a lighter set but that doesn't have to be the case. You may want to check the relief you have on your neck as well and report that here. Is everything else screwed down tight?

I'll defer to when a real guitar tech drops in, but isn't that the wrong direction?

Tightening the truss rod will flatten the neck by pulling in the opposite direction to the strings.

Well, I think I got it. The best I can, anyway. Most of the buzz is gone thanks to a lot of messing with the Floyd Rose tremelo. I raised it so that the strings are 3/32 of an inch away from the last fret. This gave me the action I wanted with only a tiny bit of buzz on the heavier strings and only on some of the lower frets. I had to loosen the truss rod all the way. But, it sounds pretty awesome now. That EMG81 is a beast! The Sustainer pickup is a little under powered but I hardly ever use it as an actual pickup. Thanks for all the replies but I kinda figured I was gonna figure this one out myself. I think all I wanted was some advice and maybe a tip or two. But, no worries. I got it! :)

sometimes a proper setup is needed but glad to hear you have it worked out.
