Has any one ever used (hired or created from scractch) a street team for their cd projects?

How did it go?

How big is your project? To me a street team could be five or so of your friends handing out fliers.

How Big Is My Project ? Well Right Now I Dont Have A Budget Other Than My Paycheck . . . After Bills Etc.

And Everyone I Know Works "office/desk Jobs" So Im Really Needin Some Folk With Spare Time . . . For A Street Team . . .

Which Is Why Im Tryin To Find Some Company Htat Might Have A Good Rep. For Street Teamin Other Peopples Stuff . . .

You can't really "buy" that type of promotion. As Jonhall said, it works best as a couple friends passing out tapes, letting the music speak for itself. If you've got good music, it will "grow legs", others will put it on mixtapes/tell a friend, etc.

i dont know about that one. i feel the theory of what you are saying . .. but i have a hard time even FINDING mixtape dj's around this area . . . im not saying they arent in effect n what not . . . but when i hit up stores and other hip hop type spots, i ask dudes all the time about local mixtape djs and people look at me like im a fool . . .. if its not one of the "major" mixtape djs . . . clue, green lantern types. . . people think im outta my mind for even lookin for em . . .

so i still feel you as far as passing it out and lettin the legs grow . . . but i want to put sometin in the mix to make the legs grow a lil quicker than normal . . .

I'm not talking about that type of mixtape. I'm talking about between two friends.

I make CD-R's all the time for friends with original music I've found that I like. If the song is really good, people tend to say "Who is that? Do they have a website? Where can I get more?".

That type of word-of-mouth promotion goes a very long way. I've got a friend who got 60,000 hits when mp3.com was still alive, all through word-of-mouth. He's currently talking to some indie labels to distribute his album.

ok in that case i see what you sayin . . . . that is something in the mix . . .
