Strange Cubase Problem

I have Cubase LE and have used it without a problem for several years now. But a new problem has arisen: when I hit record, it records for a fraction of a second and then just continues to play without recording. So I have to hit record twice to get it to actually record, which means that there are all these small gaps in between where I start and stop recording. Is there some record setting that I accidentally switched, or is my program just going crazy?

If you have punch out on it will do as you describe so I'd check it first.

It's in the transport and looks like crooked line, it's by the button labeled "AQ" If it's lit it's on. I forget if it's the right or left one 'cause I never use it.

But it sounds like you have punch out selected.
