Stoopid question probably....

Feel free to bat me round the head for being so stoopid, but, I just cant work out how to do the following-

Open a song in Cubase VST, select one track, select a looped section of said track and copy the notes...this I can do.
Now I want to open a new song and paste the notes I just coppied onto a new track so I can repeat them but every time it says I have to close the other song first and then all the coppied notes get binned. !?! Does this mean I cant copy and paste between songs ?

Anybody know a way round this please let me know, Its prob something realy simple I have missed, but then that would be just like me.......... Oh i'm still on VST/24 3.7 as it happens.

I use a newer version of Cubase so I have never encountered your problem, but assuming there are some similarities between your system and VST32 5.1 I would suggest two possibilities.

The first would be to see if you could import the track from the audio pool (if 3.7 has an audio pool).

The second would be when you have your looped part all laid out and ready to copy, erase everything else but that part and "save as...." your new song's name (I am assuming from what you wrote that this is going into a brand new song that doesn't have any other parts laid out yet). Then make sure when you close the ORIGINAL song that you DON'T save it (obvious I know, but accidents and crying do happen over such quick clicks of the mouse). You should then have your looped part ready to play with under your new songs file name.

I am sure there are other better ways that more experienced user will give you but this might get you started.

BTW...there are no stupid questions except those that start with "I'm having trouble with my cracked version of Cubase...."

Doh.. I should have said...

Thanks for the input, but I should have made it more clear... its not an audio track I wish to copy, its a midi track...specifically a section of a drum track that I can then import into a new song, I just dont want to have to 'hand copy' it again- and I cant believe its not possible within cubase.
 
Did you try my second suggestion? If it's a MIDI track that should still work. Of course it would only work if you don't have any other parts for the tune already laid out.

Someone else will probably have a better suggestion for you.
