Is it a fact that only back coated tapes suffer from sticky shed?

For the most part, yes. Capitol made some non-backcoated tape that had a binder problem, as did a few off brands that you rarely see these days. A lot of non-backcoated tape suffers from another problem called Loss of Lubricant (LOL). This also causes the tape to drag and squeak, but it’s not sticky-shed, per se.
