More information please…how is anybody supposed to magically know what it is? You ask as though we’re all hanging at your place and can actually see what you’re seeing…like I’m standing next to you and you say “Hey [pointing]…what do you think that is? Grease, tape shed?” But I’m not there.
So here goes the game of questions.
What machine? Is this the 388?
If it’s the 388, just to confirm, you’re talking about the aluminum roller just ahead of the headblock assembly?
Did you consider posting a picture of the roller?
Did you do any basic investigation on your own? Like…is it greasy? Do other rollers have the same deposits on the them or are your lifters or heads gunking up?
