Oh crap.
I knew I was gonna catch some flack for saying that.
But think about it: how much better would any experienced home rec'er's recordings be if suddenly they had access to:
1: The level of talent Mutt records.
2: The best sounding rooms on the planet
3: A budgetless selection of mic's and pre's
4: Outboard gear of the Gods
But I want to make it clear that my main point was this:
Experience and the quality of gear as factors in your ability to create a good recording kind of run together to a certain point. As you gan experience, train your ears, and have the opportunity to be exposed to new and more expensive gear, you are better able to understand and utilize it.
Relating it back to "Flexable" as an example, how much better of a recording would it have been if Steve Vai had had access to Mutt Lange's gear at the time?
I guess I shouldn't have compared myself to Mutt. If given his gear, my recordings probably wouldn't sound a thing like his. But they would definitely sound better than MY recording on MY current gear.
Maybe we should let VoxVendor have a go on Mutt's gear. Now
