Hi guys,

I'm trying to record in stereo, but I must be doing something wrong. I have two mics, going into my DMP3 (Ch. A, and Ch. B), then out to a converter that takes two 1/4" and make them into one 1/8", and that's in my "line in."

Now, when I speak (or play) into the mics, they both register, but on the same line. I don't know how to isolate them.

I would like one left, and one right. How do I do this?

You need a soundcard that has multiple ins so you can then set the tracks you are recording in Cool edit to the different inputs.

Look at getting an maudio 2496 or something similar if your only looking for a couple of tracks at a time.

Hey man, I have the exact same cable and have one mic as left channel the other as right. The only thing I could think is that the 1/8" end is not stereo... its mono. If seen it before where 2 1/4" devices go to 1/8" mono. Double check the cable. Second thing I would have said is to check that you are using the line in. Third, is this a windows based sound card, or is it an m-audio or some other audiophile card? Maybe we can figure this out.

You must have a Stereo Soundcard in your computer or you could use USB Audio/Midi Interface. You see, even though you have the right ideal for recording in stereo, your computer can't record it in stereo. I ran into that problem a long time ago and done some research and found my best way to go was purchase a Tascam US-122 USB Audio/Midi Interface, it cost me a little over $200.00. It comes with it's own sofware. You can use it to record D.I.(straight in) to your computer using Adobe Auditon(Cool Edit Pro 2000) or whatever software you might use, or you can do like me I use a digital 24 track recorder for recording then send it through stereo L/R into the Tascam US-122 L/R and use Adobe(Cool Edit Pro 2000) to do all the work.
 
You do have the tracks set up in CEP to record opposite, right?

Like Channel 1 - Rec L, and Channel 2 - Rec R

If your 1/8" adapter is stereo, it should work. I do it all the time.
 
1/8" doesn't necessarily mean mono- look at the headphone jack on your Walkman- it's an 1/8", and your headphones still work in stereo.


What kind of soundcard have you got?
