Stereo to Mono Mixdown Question

Fellow enthusiasts, I have a question that's driving me nuts. I'm using Logic Pro 9 with an Ensemble interface and a Avalon 737sp. I want to experiment with using the Avalon for mixdown, which is where I'm getting a little confused as I think about the setup.

Here's my proposed hardware setup for mixdown: Ensemble Output 3 > Avalon Input; Avalon Output > Ensemble Input 1; likewise,
Here's my proposed software setup for mixdown: Project bounce to new track (stereo), switch to Mono output 3; New record enabled track: Input 1-2, Stereo Out; then,
Record through entire project.

I obviously understand the difference between stereo and mono. My question is, however, by using the Avalon for mixdown after bouncing the project to a new track (all of the pan/level automation written to this one new track) will the mixdown track still technically be mono? Or will it still retain its "stereo" (pan) automation?

Thanks in advance!

You would need two channels of avalon to keep it stereo. You could try to play the right channel of the mix through the avalon, record that, and then run he left channe lof the mix through the avalon and record it. Then in the DAW, pan the two channels left and right and render them as a stereo file.

Thank you for the reply!

I thought about that after my original post. I'll give that a shot and see if it works. I also thought about doing the same without bouncing the Project's tracks to a new track.

I'm a little disappointed because the Avalon literature specifically shows using one 737 for mixdown, and specifically shows 2 for mastering (the mastering part makes sense). Else I would've bought the 747.

The one for mixdown was probably being used as channel strip for a single channel or mono buss.

Stereo is two channels of audio, in order to preserve it, you need two channels of signal path.
