Hi.
I've been recording stuff for a while (very poorly) on my mac. Now I've got a pc and my software isnt compatible.

My problem now is, when i hook my guitar directly into my computer, it only comes through my left speaker instead of both. Even if the program i'm using is set on both. Anyone know how to fix that?

what multitrack software are you using.
anyway - your getting this problem probably because the track you recorded a mono signal to was designated as a stereo track probably.
go into the track properties and if you are recording a mono track reset its property to MONO. THEN on playback you can pan the track anywhere you want.
tell me how you get on.
if you want to record a stereo track of course you set the track property to stereo.
if you have only a stereo sound card on your pc you can set whether to record thru left or right input.
or BOTH for stereo.
peace.

I'm using goldwave.
I set it to mono, but now it wont let me use the pan settings. and it still only comes through the left speaker.

Ok now I have another problem.
I'm using Audacity to record.
But when i record a new track it automatically adds the other track to that one. so it just duplicates itself as it records, as if i had a mic on somewhere.
Even though I dont...

its very strange because it records everything thats playing in the computer.
I had a virtual metronome going and it recorded that along with my guitar. and it records the track that im trying to play with.
bother.

If you use a mixer, try playing with the knobs EFX and RTN.

If you plug your guitar directly, go to the options in your sofware (I don't know Goldwave). It should be something like "monitoring" or "direct monitoring" in there. Check/uncheck and try again.

Good luck,

Alejo.

Click on the little speaker on the tool bar in the lower right hand corner then click on options then properties and choose recording and uncheck everything but line in. Try it again and it should only record the guitar on the line in.

Also, check the connection into your soundcard and make sure it is a stereo plug. If it's only a mono plug you would only here it on the left side like you do when recording for stereo.

excellent points morningstar.
schmack - i suspect this problem with music being recorded in with the current track is due to you using a SB type soundcard. audigy perhaps ?
this is a common problem with these sound cards.
ive seen it many times. its something on the audigy to do with "what you hear" i believe.

I thought I replied earlier, but apparently I didn't...

But I tried morningstar's method and it worked.
Much thanks to the both of ya. :)
