Is there any way of doing stereo drums in Garage Band 3 using the software kits in Garage Band? (Panning various parts of the kid across the stereo 'picture').

The only way that I can think of is by duplicating tracks, panning each track to a different position, and deleting the instruments so that only one instrument is on each track (e.g., tom on track 1, panned +85, cymbal track 2 panned -85, hi hat track 3 panned -65).

Presuming that the above works, would it be possible to then 'join' the tracks and have the individual instruments retain the individual panning settings?

Or, if the above works, maybe that is when one would choose inputs 1 & 2 as 'destinations' for the drums.

Is there any other way of doing this?

Thanks,

You are on the right track as far as panning the composite instruments to create a stereo image, unfortunately GBand does not allow you to combine those tracks back into one. But you can just simply leave them in that state, and when you export them, they will be in stereo format.

Hi genesisariana,
Thanks very much for your reply.

It would be nice if one could export those separate drum tracks, and re-import them so that they remained editable, but I guess that's one of the limits of Garageband.

Thanks for your reply,
