When I have a paired stereo signal coming into my mixer(ex: my karma coming into channel 3+4 in my 01X), do I always have to pan hard left and hard right?
What happens if I don't?
Do I have to pan hard left and right with all my synths coming into my mixer?

Another question, I have a Yamaha VL70M a mono physical modeling synth, but with stereo FX. Do I need to pan that hard left and right as well?

Thnaks for the clarifications.

If you want to keep the exact sound that is coming from your keyboard, you have to pan hard.

Some sounds will dissappear if you pan both sides to the center.

What I tend to do is: Pan pad sounds like strings and droney background things hard. Lead sounds, or melody sounds, I just use one side and keep them mono. That way I can pan those around the stereo field as I see fit.

If you keep everything stereo and hard panned, you mix will end up mono with a bunch of conflicting stereo choruses.
