Stereo pair?

That SMART guy.
At the moment I only have a C3000B, and a SM58 copy. I'll be getting a kick mic and SM57 soon, and want some stereo pair with that to use as overheads, and for other stuff. (stereo recording of classical and whatever comes to mind...)

I know of these mics at the moment: octava MC012, AKG C1000, Crown CM700, Marshall MXL603. (All small condensors.) The only one that I know where to get over here are the AKG's... Have to look around for the other brands...

I could also get another C3000B, but I don't like it all that much for now (maybe I will once I get a micpre), and I want to have a little more choice as sm57/C3000... :) Switchable patterns would be nice, the price would be less than $500/mic. And actually, I'd prefer less than 500 for both. :D But I'll decide on that once I know what the options are...

So, any other mics I may want to look at? Maybe big diaphragm condensors? Things I want to make sure of?

Well, since your not very happy with your large diaphragm condenser, you could try a pair of MC012s and get the lo-mo head for one of them. That way you would have some choice in terms of vocal mics and have a stereo pair for overheads too. It would run you over $800 though, i think.

I'm pretty happy with my MXL 603s too.

I ordered a pair of MXL-603s's today from Abe's for 130.00 bucks shipped.

Can't you have purchases shipped to you from the States Roel?

I have a pair of GT MD6TMs which are multi-pattern. I got them originally to use for MS, but they can be used for anything. I'm pretty happy with them - I paid $600 and something for each of them at Full Compass... er, um - that's it...

Yeah, but the shipment will be higher, and there's extra border taxes too. (Up to 21%, I think!:( )

I found a german site, that is about 25% cheaper than the shops over here, and since it's in Europe, no extra taxes... Of course, they don't have Marshall and Octava mics. But now I can go to the shop and tell 'em: well, on the internet I can get these mics at... Done it before, it works. :) If they can get the Octava/Marshall mics in the shop, I'll try it anyway. Hehe.

Those Marshalls are so cheap. Damn. If I knew where to find them, I'd get them just for the hell of it.

I looked at the GT site just a moment ago, and there's only 7 mics, all starting with AM...

Also Gnarled, I looked at the Neumanns... Aaaah... Just the name would make me wanna buy those. But I think I'd rather get some more and less expensive mics first...

So I'll decrease the budget... Say 600$ for the both of them. (I wanna get me a cheapo micpre too... Probably the Behringer ultragain. I want stereo... And need a compressor too. Damn. Gonna have to sell my pants if I g to that damned store again...)

Check out this site:

and look for studio gear (pull-down menu). I think the site that you saw was the one for Alesis/GT; I'm not sure what is the current state of play, but at one time, the only place you could get original (pre-Alesis) GT mics was at Full Compass.

Good Luck -
