One good-looking mike line that I stumbled across on the net was Stedman. But when I search this site I found very little. Their large diaphragm condensers look good, have very good specs, and are reasonably priced (compared to other high quality mikes), and made in the USA. Makes me wonder why I don't hear more about them. Any experience out there ?

Thanks.

I've known about them for a few years now but I've never really looked into them. I've heard a recording with a N90 on a rock electric guitar cab and recollect thinking it being a rather nice "dynamic mic"; not anything fancy but not "so-so" either. It seemed to hold its own. It's for when you're looking for a different sounding dynamic mic than the SM57 or 421. Other than that, no other experiences. Haven't heard any of the condensers though.

I think it'd be really interesting to gather Stedman, Sanken, and Pearl mics and see how they are.

I bought an N90 about 4 or 5 years ago as my first large diaphragm mic. It's been a while since I've used it ... but as I remember its really "honky" in the mid range frequencies. It's been used on almost everything at one point or another. Mainly because I guess I never really liked it as much as a sm57 on vocals. Also, I remember thinking it had a pretty wide pattern for being a cardiod mic. OK rejection from the back ... but I'd guess 180º pickup on the front. Wasn't too good for live band recordings ... which is what it was used for a lot of the time. :)
I wouldn't mind hearing one of their condensors, though. The company has been around for a little while, if that tells you anything.
