The bottom end is BIG in the intro but fits the mix after that.
The HEAD phones mix is pretty trippy - & I was listening to the Flaming Lips Yoshimi just a couple of hours ago.
Funky in a rock sense yes but not in a funk sense - the kit is too rock for that.

This track has a deliciously rich textured soundscape . . . there's so much going on, but it all makes perfect sense. It is engrossing and engaging, and makes me want to keep listening. Vocals were great, specially the harmonies.

That's a great voice. This isn't my kind of music, but great singing.

This part is a layman's opinion:

I thought the low end was fine. Definitely a lot going on, and it's all accentuated by the reverb or echo or whatever that is. I think it works for this song.

This reminds me of some modern Deep Purple mixed with Floyd.

Fucking cool. I always appreciate a good headphone mix. Great bass.

The hi hats at the end were obnoxious

Trippy indeed! I just listened with speakers, not headphones. In the 2:20-2.25 region there is a high cymbal-bell being hit that doesn't fit in so well.

thanks rayc......
you know, i forgot when i programmed that drum part (it's been several years, i don't even have the machine i used anymore!) that i used three different kits throughout, and they don't really play well together!!

LOL
so i had to do a 'compromise' eq setting that worked for all the drum kits...
but i'm thinking it might be worth it to cut and paste the drum track (it's a single stereo file) three times, and eq each section separate of each other, then just do crossfades from kit to kit.

that way, i can tame some of those overly big parts, and get it to work all the way thru...

i'm not sure what those kits were, i think they were just 'synthetic'

thanks for listening

thans gecko, that texture you refer to, that's what i was shooting for....
it works best when you don't really listen to any of it, but just kind of let it flow.....
at least that was the idea.
thanks again, glad you dig it

appreciate the nice words, bright......
i've got some verb on some stuff, some echo on others, so it's a bit of both.....
thanks for letting me know how this translates on your system,
i'm still working on it.

purple and floyd!!
now theres a schizo combo.....
i like it.
LOL

yea, those cymbals, and more than just that one spot...
i'm going back and automating some aggressive eq just for those particular spots,
i'll get it dialed in.
thanks!

This is Freakin' FREAKY AWESOME! Def hear some Floyd influence in the leads. Lots of ping pong in your ears (fun!). Beautiful harmonies and vocals. Good on ya!
No nits not already addressed.

Wow... This sounds amazing... The guitar rifts remind me of Floyd meets John Frusciante haha

yes you are right!

i'm gonna fix that.....
thanks

glad you dig this one broKen...

and just for academic purposes, the 'ping ponging' you refer to, is not an effect, all the guitar tracks (and keys) are mono tracks, with mono effects, they are just hard panned...

so what you are actually hearing, is a "CALL AND RESPONSE" fashion of fills and melodies.

the strat I used for this recording,
is purely one of a kind, a custom build:

The Williams Special is a Les Paul-Strat-Mustang-Explorer hybrid, with hollow body cavities, Mustang scale length, built like a paul with mahagony and maple top, with vintage-dimension strat body, explorer headstock.

a custom build (obviously!) i think it's pretty unique...

started out with a EMG SA assembly, that was changed to a pair of Wilde L-280's in neck and middle, with a duncan Lil 59'r in the bridge.

folks sometimes think that the bridge pickup is moved out, but it's really the neck and middle that are moved towards the bridge, because of the scale length and the 24 frets...
it's kinda like brian may's red special that way.....

if you are interested in HARD SPECS, i can post those as well.

also an interesting recording note...

all of the guitars were recorded thru a POD XT direct.

man..creepy critters crawling across my skin. Sounds great man. Talented.
