I have a Tascam Portastudio (424mkII) that I bought through eBay about 5 years ago and used happily for about 3 years. Then one crisp winter day, I happened to touch the "Rewind" button and without first discharging the static electricity I had built up from walking across the carpet.
Since that day, the electronics have been totally screwed up. I can start the tape, but I can't stop it, except by turning the machine off. For a while, I was able to listen to tapes, but for a long time now, that has not worked, either: I just get a kind of low rumbling sound that makes me worry about tape damage.
So my question: can anything be done about this, or do I just have to get on eBay and look for another one?
If it's the latter, does anyone happen to know whether I could play my tapes back on a 424mkIII? I assume so, but I don't want to be unpleasantly surprised.
Thanks in advance for any wisdom imparted....
