I don’t find that synth too distracting for me but why not post a version with it dropped right out on the verses anyhow so we can hear without it. I’m thinking it could be good that way also. Kinda change things up a bit. Plus when it does come in on the chorus etc. it will have greater impact. Just a thought.

The smoother synth definitely sounds better. I'd go with that tone and timbre. I think it sounds good to bring the synth back at the change around the 1 minute mark. I wouldn't use it during the first vocal part. Maybe go with something less busy there so it's still full but so it's not distracting from the vocals. I prefer nothing there, tbh. I think that actually sounds good with nothing during the main vocal part, then bringing the synth back in on the break.

Yah I like it No Synth second version not finding it lacking during verse

Here's 2 new versions. On the first I made the attack more smooth on the synth and not as harsh. The second is without synth in the two first verses. Personally I think it sounds way to empty without the synths in the verse :/
That is a big operatic ambitious song. Cleanly recorded. Reminds me of Mansun. That hit he had. As a middle ground suggestion, for the verses couldn't you substitute the busy synth for a gentler string wash, hinting at the chord changes? I like the synth but agree that you can get more effect from it by bringing it in and out for the choruses.

Great suggestion! I have a subtle string pad on the second verse, maybe something like that could work. It needs something atleast, I don't really like how it sounds when completely taking away the arpeggio synth.
