Starting to get Serious in my home studio

Hey, I'm starting to take making my own tracks seriously, so I need a decent monitoring system. I am strictly using programs on my macbook pro (reason & logic) so I don't need to record anything into my computer for now.

I just bought a pair of MA-BX5as. Here's the pic of them:

I am currently going from the 1/8" audio out on my macbook pro to the 1/4" ins on the monitors (used a 1/8" to split 1/4" cable).

I really need to get a sub to complement these. However, I can't wrap my head around how I would hook this sub up to my monitors/computer. Most subs I'm looking at just have XLR ins/outs. What crazy cables could I buy to get a sub running on my monitor system?

Buying a $300-400 sub is going to pretty much exhaust my budget, so hopefully I don't need some sort of hardware interface...looking to do this with a few different cables if at all possible. If not, what would I need so I can start saving?

Do any specific interfaces come to mind for something simple like this? There's a very slim chance I'll ever actually record anything in this studio.

So could you point me in the right direction of an interface that will simply let me hook up these monitors, a sub, and maybe one mic?

However the OUTS are just 2 1/4" slots, which just brings me back to square 1. I don't see where a sub would be connected to these things.

now instead of plugging from your computer into the speakers , plug them into the inputs on the sub. then from the output on the back of the sub into the input on the speakers. it is simple as that. you don't HAVE to have an interface. but IMO instead of going 1/8 to 1/4, id buy a 1/8th to rca and use the rca inputs on the back of the sub. but thats just how i would do it. hope this helps :) when you click on the link scroll to the bottom where it says active crossover and that will explain it better.
